HISTORY

Coordinator of Expansion Trevor Ayotte, Salem State ’17, began expansion efforts at CSU Monterey Bay in the spring semester of 2020. Sixteen men were virtually initiated into the Kappa Iota Provisional Chapter on October 9, 2020 by Director of Provisional Chapter Development Sam Franzoia, Chico State ’12. The Provisional Chapter was approved to charter by the Grand Council in April 2023.

Kappa Iota held its chartering ceremony on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Grand Historian Emeritus, Robert Kutz, UC-Berkeley ’67, gave the Keynote Address and presented the group with their charter. Speakers from the Chapter included VP of Retention Jayden Saechao, CSU Monterey Bay ’21, Founding Father and Past President Andrew Valdez, CSU Monterey Bay ’20, Past President Cole Ortega CSU Monterey Bay ’21, and President at the time of chartering Vincent Ambrosino, CSU Monterey Bay ’21. Layton Piver, Chico State ’11, represented Headquarters Staff at the ceremony. 

The Kappa Iota Charter rostered 36 names with initiation years ranging from 2020-2023.
